In 2022, House Ethics Committee Chairman and Florida Representative Ted Deutch announced his resignation from the US House of Representatives to take a job as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Jewish Committee. After working with a focus towards bipartisanship in Congress, he wrote in Newsweek, “Increases in antisemitism are often associated with a rise in general polarization and division and are indicative of broader threats to democracy. Hate and extremism thrive in these environments where they feed off distrust – and vice-versa. It’s a negative feedback loop that puts us all in danger.”

Join us as Ted Deutch talks about reducing polarization, from politics to social media, and the importance of finding ways to disagree better and move towards nuance. He will use policy discussions, case studies with universities, government and community organizations as examples.  He will also talk about media literacy and interfaith efforts, as well as the responsibility of media platforms, Congress, and most importantly, all of us, in reducing polarization and moving away from extremes towards nuanced conversation. The program will be moderated by Jo Ann Allen, former CPR radio journalist and current host of the podcast “Been There, Done That.”
