The coronavirus pandemic caused severe economic disruption as businesses, government and individuals adopted measures to mitigate the spread of the disease. While the impact reverberated throughout the economy, some sectors of the economy such as hospitality and tourism bore the biggest brunt of the impact.

The Congressional Budget Office now projects that the economic expansion begun in mid-2020 will continue. Furthermore, the CBO projects that the GDP will return to pre-pandemic levels in mid-2021 and that the unemployment rate will continue to decline gradually through 2026. However, all economic forecasts are imperfect descriptions of the real world. While these are encouraging signs, understanding the economic environment, especially for individual investors is still challenging.

Two financial experts with combined expertise in federal monetary policy, investment strategies and business creation and growth join in conversation about the economic environment. They will address the future of investments and the direction of specific investments, what a balanced portfolio looks like given low returns on fixed investments and whether the stock market is at risk of a correction. They will also address the likely approaches for the current administration regarding the retirement gap and social security.

This wide-ranging discussion will also include the Federal Reserve’s actions stimulating the economy with an assessment of their efficacy and projected future moves. Is there a concern of the Fed becoming too political? What is the likelihood and impact of the US dollar losing its place as a global currency? The tax law of 2017 had a significant impact on corporate profits and liquidity – what worked well and what didn’t and where is the new administration likely to go with its promised tax changes. Should anyone be concerned about rising debt levels?
