Health & Wellness 2026

The Current and Future State of Cancer Research

Wed Aug 19, 2026
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Cancer is a disease that continues to be wide-reaching, a leading cause of death, and impacts every demographic. In 2026, according to the American Cancer Society, the US expects over 2.1 million new cancer cases, more than 600,000 deaths, and impacts more than 18 million survivors. As new research is implemented, mortality rates continue to drop and treatment with more targeted therapies reduces the impact on survivors.

Dr. Michael Deininger, the Deputy Director for Team & Transdisciplinary Research at the Rogel Cancer Center and Professor and Division Chief of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Michigan and Dr. Albert Koong, Division Head and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson will share with us the current state of cancer research as well as what promising therapies are on the horizon. Topics will include targeted therapies, immune-based treatments, transdisciplinary research, T-cell engagers, vaccines, early detection, proton therapies, the application of Artificial Intelligence, and more. Bring your curiosity and questions and learn about the future of cancer prevention and treatment.
