One of the most important questions to emerge from the Holocaust is: How do we build societies and institutions that safeguard human dignity? Drawing on history, medicine, ethics, and public policy, Jonathan D. Moreno, PhD, a nationally recognized bioethicist, examines how the Holocaust gave rise to modern bioethics and why the principles of human rights, professional accountability, and ethical decision-making remain vital in addressing today’s most pressing challenges. He also argues that the ethical institutions and international norms created in the aftermath of World War II are more fragile than many assume and explores what their erosion could mean for medicine, democracy, and human rights in the years ahead.

Dr. Moreno explores why these institutions matter, the challenges they face today, and what it means to sustain their legacy for future generations.
