Vail Symposium presents a multi-sensory journey to Africa

The Hotel Talisa set the stage for a memorable evening about Africa in their modern alpine facilities. Audience members were transported on a taste adventure to Africa prior to the program thanks to the culinary skills of executive chef Jay Spickelmier. Ogbono Nigerian soup, toasted pepitas, nontraditional fufu, and chermoula-marinated redfish fortified the Vail Symposium audience before they settled in for a journey to Africa.
Dr. Peter Matlon and Dr. Monde Muyungwa were the evening’s guides on this journey. Peter and Monde proceeded to chip away at the misconceptions and oversimplifications that abound about this vast continent. Monde dazzled with a content-rich presentation that both wowed the audience members and inspired them with a message of hope about the future of Africa and the possibilities of future U.S. – Africa relations.
In our next installment of the geopolitical series, the Vail Symposium pivots to Asia with North Korean expert Jung Pak of the Brookings Institution on September 27.
