3 Reasons to Make a Donation on Colorado Gives Day 2014

3 Reasons to Make a Donation on Colorado Gives Day 2014

This year, Colorado Gives Day is on December 9th, 2014 — less than two months away! The Vail Symposium staff, board and volunteers are excited to participate in this epic day of giving for our third year. Colorado Gives day is 24 hours – from midnight to midnight on Tuesday, December 9th – of online giving through the Community First Foundation. The Foundation was created to increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving.

Last year, you gave us over $8,000 on Gives Day. Imagine if we doubled that this year. Our goal is to raise over $15,000 on Gives Day this year to help fund programming in 2015, and mostly importantly, to help us keep that programming affordable to our community.

We need your help to accomplish this goal.

Here are three reasons why you should make a donation to the Vail Symposium on Colorado Gives Day 2014…

1.) Your dollar goes further on Colorado Gives Day. The FirstBank Incentive Fund increases the value of every dollar donated to the Vail Symposium on Gives Day. For the first time ever, Colorado Gives Day features a $1 Million Incentive Fund, one of the largest gives-day incentive funds in the country. Every nonprofit receiving a donation on Colorado Gives Day receives a portion of the Incentive Fund.

Locally, the organizations which are part of with Eagle County Gives—this includes the Vail Symposium!—will also receive extra money because we have our very own Incentive Fund thanks to donations from local restaurants, properties, and other businesses.

2.) If you give on December 9th, you will be part of the thousands of other Coloradoans giving to their favorite charities. More than 27,000 donors gave $8.1 Million Dollars in 2013. Here in Eagle County, 368 donations raised more than $71,000 for Eagle County non-profits! Absolutely incredible! Donors such as yourselves are not only taking part of a state-wide drive toward sustainable non-profits but you will be part of the 368 Eagle County Residents who have decided to support their favorite local non-profits!

3.) Your donation will help fund the Vail Symposium’s spectacular Winter 2015 Programming Season. This winter we are bringing some fantastic speakers, including Phil Town, Eben Alexander, and Christopher Hill, to Vail and featuring Hot Topic Panels on fracking, stem cells, marijuana legislation, and body image. Your donations make this programming possible.

Starting on November 1st, you can schedule your December 9th donation. Just go towww.coloradogives.org/vailsympoium. Please help us reach our goal of doubling what we earned last year and donate on Colorado Gives Day!

Fun Ways to Support the Symposium in September

Through mid-September, the Vail Symposium has fundraising on the mind. Beyond an “ask” for the funds that allow our organization to provide educational programs that are thought-provoking, diverse and affordable for the Vail Valley community and its visitors, through September we have organized a variety of other – more interesting – ways to support the Symposium.

While we appreciate any donations at any time of the year, we think you’ll enjoy what we have organized. Here are 3 great ways to support the Symposium this August and September.

  1. 1. The Vail Symposium Annual Golf Tournament

Great Golf. Great Value. Great Cause. That’s the tagline we’ve been running alongside our golf tournament because we truly believe it. For only $450 per foursome or $125 per individual, you can play in the tournament with all proceeds benefiting the Vail Symposium. The tournament will be hosted on the gorgeous and private Cordillera Mountain Course on September 17. Play for great prizes, enjoy breakfast burritos served on course, bid in our large silent auction while tasting Hors d’oeuvres and listening to Ken Schanzer, former NBC Sports president, give a lecture following the round of golf.

The entire day promises to be a fun outing, while raising money at the same time. Register your foursome here

  1. 2. Online Silent Auction – Bidding Now Open!

We’ve taken a few of the items generously donated to our organization and put them in an online silent auction. Think Groupon meets Ebay – a great way to find some fantastic trips, lodging deals, restaurant certificates and apparel. Best of luck in your bidding – you just might find yourself in the midst of a great deal.

All proceeds from the online silent auction benefit the Vail Symposium. Enjoy your bidding wars and we hope you come away with a few great wins.

  1. Enjoy the remainder of our programs

Words is spreading around the Vail Valley that summer is just about over – hard to argue with the cool mornings and evenings. It seems that fall is around the corner if not altogether upon us. While the weather might be shifting, the Vail Symposium is pressing on with a number of great programs to cap off our summer 2014 season. On August 29 we have a film screening of “Keep On Keepin’ On” a riveting documentary that follows blind jazz pianist protégé Justin Kauflin and jazz legend Clark Terry. As Terry begins to lose his sight and Kauflin’s career launches, the two forge a bond that is perfectly captured by this film.

In September the Symposium hosts the Consciousness Series. Names leading the fields of dreams, mindfulness and Native American healing will deliver there lectures on this alternative side of health and wellness.
