David Kaplan is a member of the executive team at Vail Health and serves as the president of Colorado Mountain Medical (CMM) and Physician Services, where he leads a premier multi-specialty medical group dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare across the Eagle River Valley. Since joining the organization, Kaplan has focused on expanding patient access and integrating innovative medical models, including concierge and executive health programs, to meet the evolving needs of the mountain community.
With more than 20 years of leadership experience in healthcare strategy and operations, Kaplan previously served as the CEO of the Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance where he merged multiple independent Orthopedic groups together before returning to the Colorado Rockies. His career also includes a 16-year tenure in Denver, where he held senior leadership roles at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopedics and Children’s Hospital Colorado. In these roles, Kaplan was responsible for advancing patient care, innovation, research, physician recruitment and management, and running the business of service lines within his purview.
At CMM, Kaplan is a champion for operational excellence and workforce sustainability. He has spearheaded initiatives to centralize specialty services and leverage automation to improve the provider and patient experience. His leadership is defined by a commitment to ensuring that the valley remains a leader in rural healthcare delivery, and that the community benefits from a high-quality clinical experience with a focus on excellent service.
The early part of Kaplan’s career was spent as an entrepreneur owning a poker and marketing company and as a senior leader in the finance industry specializing in debt consolidation, mortgages, and financial planning before taking the leap to healthcare administration.
Kaplan holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas and a Master of Business Administration from Regis University where Mr. Kaplan is now an adjunct faculty member teaching “Advanced Concepts of Healthcare Finance and Economics” for the Masters of Health program. He and his wife, Jennifer, are residents of the Vail Valley, where they are raising their two children (Jude and Aviva) and enjoy the active mountain lifestyle that Kaplan is dedicated to supporting through high-quality community medicine.
