    Christopher M. Cappa, a native of Hartford, CT, currently calls Virginia home. Born with an innate zest for life, he brings contagious energy to everything he undertakes. With a rich blend of high-level problem-solving skills, exceptional leadership/mentorship abilities, and strong communication and interpersonal finesse, Cappa is a force to be reckoned with in both professional and personal spheres.

    In 2014, Cappa embarked on a remarkable eight-year and three-month journey as a United States Navy SEAL, dedicating himself to the highest standards of service. Throughout his tenure, he meticulously honed his skills as a qualified Lead Breacher and Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) Handler. Notably, his multiple deployments with SEAL Team 10 to Africa not only underscored his unwavering dedication, but also solidified his expertise in navigating high-stakes environments with precision and resilience.

    Elevating his role, Cappa served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Naval Special Warfare Group Multi-Purpose Canine Program for a substantial two-year period. In this influential position, he oversaw the training of MPC teams, acting as a direct conduit between the MPC Program and SEAL Platoons. His responsibilities extended to teaching, training, testing, and qualifying three classes of MPC teams, totaling nine teams.

    In 2019, Cappa, alongside his MPC partner Miki, seamlessly integrated into SEAL Team 7 as an MPC Handler during a deployment in Iraq. Faced with unforeseen challenges, he demonstrated exceptional courage by stepping into the role of MPC Charlie, who tragically lost their life in the line of duty.

    Beyond his military prowess, Cappa’s diverse skill set includes experience in whelping dogs, including Labs and show-quality American Pitbull Terriers. A former Thai Boxing Instructor, he brings discipline and focus from the training mat to his everyday life. In his downtime, Cappa finds solace and joy in mountain bike rides with his loyal companions, Miki and Rogue. An advocate for all things outdoors, especially those involving dogs, he actively participates in lure coursing and currently courses his Catahoula Leopard Dog, Rogue.

    Cappa is driven by a profound passion for educating and discussing working K9s in tactical settings. His journey reflects not only a commitment to service but also an unwavering dedication to the well-being and training of man’s best friend. He serves as an Ambassador for the Warrior Dog Foundation, where he played a pivotal role in piloting the innovative ‘Home with Handlers’ program. This initiative stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to the well-being and post-service transition of retired K9 MPC Miki. Cappa’s multifaceted expertise, combined with his genuine love for dogs, positions him as a unique and influential figure within both military and canine communities.

    K9 Miki, SEAL Team 10 

    Multipurpose canine Miki, known by the call signs “Madman” and “X-Ray1.” Miki’s journey began in January 2018 at the age of 10 months as he began his path to becoming an invaluable member of SEAL Team 10.

    Weighing in at a solid 60 pounds, Miki possesses the strength and agility required for his demanding role. Miki’s versatility extends beyond the ordinary. Trained to fast rope, rappel, and cast from helicopters, he’s a dynamic asset ready for any mission. He’s familiarized himself with a range of vehicles from the Family of Special Operations Vehicles (FOSOV), including the Polaris RZR, MATV, RG, Humvee, NSCV Hilux/Land Cruisers, and more. Venturing into the maritime realm, Miki has navigated various Navy high-speed vessels, from CCMs to RHIBs, showcasing his adaptability and courage. His swimming prowess is unmatched, capable of traversing 800 meters in rough surf without hesitation.

    Within SEAL Team 10, Miki’s responsibilities are diverse. He’s trained to detect over 15 odors of explosive compounds, ensuring the safety of his team in hazardous environments. Additionally, equipped with a night vision camera system, Miki excels in direct action assistance, aiding in target assaults and person apprehensions. Beyond his operational duties, Miki serves as a morale booster, offering companionship and comfort to his teammates during challenging deployments. His hobbies include running, weight pulling, and engaging in playful interactions with other dogs, providing a much-needed reprieve from the rigors of duty. Throughout his service, Miki has deployed with three different handlers, demonstrating his adaptability and loyalty to the SEAL Team 10 mission.

    MPCs like Miki play a crucial role within SEAL Teams, operating without muzzles, off-leash, and seamlessly integrating into high-stress environments. SEAL Dog handlers are held to the highest standards, ensuring proficiency in both canine and human operations. Miki’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication and service, embodying the ethos of SEAL Team 10 and leaving an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to serve alongside him.
