Quackery, or the promotion of a treatment or cure without a solid scientific basis, has been around for centuries but has become more prevalent with the recent pandemic. From a self-described “genius entrepreneur” with a “coronavirus prevention pill” who was arrested by the FBI (“You take this pill once a day and you cannot contract the virus”) to televangelist Jim Bakker promoting “Silver Solution,” a so-called cure for COVID-19 which his TV spot claims “totally eliminates it, kills it, deactivates it” (he was sued by the state of Missouri) and Clorox enemas, the purported “cures” for the Coronavirus often seem worse than the virus itself.

In this special program, author and physician Lydia Kang will discuss her historical findings and share what current medical practices may be deemed “quackery” in the future. Maura Chhun will moderate. The live presentation will be followed by a Q&A.
