Minxin Pei

Director of the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies | Claremont McKenna College

Minxin Pei is the Tom and Margot Pritzker ‘72 Professor of Government and the director of the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies at Claremont McKenna College. He is also a non-resident senior fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31, 2019, he will be the inaugural Library of Congress Chair in U.S.-China Relations.

Prior to joining Claremont McKenna College in 2009, he worked for a decade as a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and served as its director of the China Program from 2003 to 2008. Pei was an assistant professor of politics at Princeton University from 1992 to 1998. His research focuses on economic reform and governance in China and US-China relations. The author of three books, Pei’s research has also been published in many prestigious newspapers and journals and his op-eds have appeared in the Financial Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and other publications.  He received his Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University.
