General Manager and Fire Chief | Eagle River Fire District
Chief Karl Bauer was appointed to the position of general manager and fire chief by the Eagle River Fire District’s Board of Directors. Bauer officially assumed the position January 1, 2012.
Bauer has worked as a public servant for approximately 40 years. He started his career in law enforcement in 1979 as a police officer in El Cajon, Calif., and later as a sheriff’s deputy in San Diego County. In the late 1980s, he joined the fire service as a firefighter in rural San Diego County. In 1997, he was named fire chief of the Palomar Mountain Fire Department.
Bauer moved to Colorado in 2004 where he served as Leadville’s fire chief. He joined the Eagle River District in 2007 as deputy chief of administration and training before being promoted to assistant chief in April 2010.
The Eagle River Fire Protection District includes the area from Tennessee Pass to Wolcott and serves an area of 186 square miles which include the communities of Avon, Arrowhead, Bachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek, Cordillera, Eagle-Vail, Edwards, Minturn, Red Cliff, Singletree and Wolcott.
